Attaining the Supreme

धूमो रात्रिस्तथा कृष्णः षण्मासा दक्षिणायनम् ।

तत्र चान्द्रमसं ज्योतिर्योगी प्राप्य निवर्तते ॥२५॥

dhūmo rātris tathā kṛṣṇaḥ ṣaṇ-māsā dakṣiṇāyanam tatra cāndramasaṁ jyotir yogī prāpya nivartate

धूमः — धुआँ; रात्रिः — रात; तथा — और; कृष्णः — कृष्णपक्ष; षट्-मासाः — छह मॉस की अवधि; दक्षिण-अयणम् — जब सूर्य दक्षिण दिशा में रहता है; तत्र — वहाँ; चान्द्र-मसम् — चन्द्रलोक को; ज्योतिः — प्रकाश; योगी — योगी; प्राप्य — प्राप्त करके; निवर्तते — वापस आता है |.

Translationअनुवाद

The mystic who passes away from this world during the smoke, the night, the moonlight fortnight, or in the six months when the sun passes to the south, or who reaches the moon planet, again comes back.

जो योगी धुएँ, रात्रि, कृष्णपक्ष में या सूर्य के दक्षिणायन रहने के छह महीनों में दिवंगत होता है, वह चन्द्रलोक को जाता है, किन्तु वहाँ से पुनः (पृथ्वी पर) चला आता है |

Purportतात्पर्य

In the Third Canto of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam we are informed that those who are expert in fruitive activities and sacrificial methods on earth attain to the moon at death. These elevated souls live on the moon for about 10,000 years (by demigod calculations) and enjoy life by drinking soma-rasa. They eventually return to earth. This means that on the moon there are higher classes of living beings, though they may not be perceived by the gross senses.

भागवत के तृतीय स्कंध में कपिल मुनि उल्लेख करते हैं कि जो लोग कर्मकाण्ड तथा यज्ञकाण्ड में निपुण हैं, वे मृत्यु होने पर चन्द्रलोक को प्राप्त करते हैं | ये महान आत्माएँ चन्द्रमा पर लगभग १० हजार वर्षों तक (देवों की गणना से) रहती हैं और सोमरस का पान करते हुए जीवन का आनन्द भोगती हैं | अन्ततोगत्वा वे पृथ्वी पर लौट आती हैं | इसका अर्थ यह हुआ कि चन्द्रमा में उच्चश्रेणी के प्राणी रहते हैं, भले ही हम अपनी स्थूल इन्द्रियों से उन्हें देख न सकें |
